Saint Laurent Productions debuts at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with three films directed by Audiard, Cronenberg, and Sorrentino.
Anthony Vaccarello‘s film production company, Saint Laurent Productions, has a trio of films set to premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. As a registered subsidiary of the fashion house Saint Laurent, it marks the fashion house’s first foray into full-length film production. Led and conceived by Vaccarello, the creative director aims to use cinema to further expand the cinematic breadth of his collections.
Emilia Perez
The first of the three films, premiering on May 18, is Emilia Perez, directed by Jacques Audiard. Featuring a cast that includes Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Edgar Ramirez, and Adriana Paz, the film is co-produced with A Why Not Productions and Page 114. The official synopsis of the film states:
“Overqualified and undervalued, Rita is a lawyer at a major firm who is more interested in freeing criminals than bringing them to justice. One day, an unexpected way out is offered to her when cartel leader Manitas hires her to help him retire from his business and execute a plan he has been secretly preparing for years: to become the woman she has always dreamed of being.”
The Shrouds
The second film, The Shrouds, directed by David Cronenberg, will hit the festival on May 20. The plot follows Karsh, a prominent 50-year-old businessman. The synopsis reads:
“Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents GraveTech, a revolutionary and controversial technology that allows the living to monitor their deceased loved ones in their shrouds. One night, several graves, including Karsh’s wife’s, are desecrated. Karsh sets out to find the perpetrators.” Diane Kruger stars alongside Guy Pearce, Vincent Cassel, and Sandrine Holt.
Parthenope
The final film, Parthenope, directed by Paolo Sorrentino, will premiere on May 21 and features a stellar cast including Dario Aita, Celeste Dalla Porta, Silvia Degrandi, Isabella Ferrari, Lorenzo Gleijeses, Biagio Izzo, Marlon Joubert, Peppe Lanzetta, Nello Mascia, Gary Oldman, Silvio Orlando, Luisa Ranieri, Daniele Rienzo, Stefania Sandrelli, and Alfonso Santagata. Produced by The Apartment Pictures, the film is presented as a female epic and follows the life of Parthenope from her birth in 1950 to the present day. The synopsis reads:
“A female epic, devoid of heroism but filled with an inexorable passion for freedom, Naples, and the faces of love—all those true, futile, and inexpressible loves. The perfect summer in Capri, the carefree youthfulness, ending in ambush. And then all the rest—the Neapolitans, men and women, observed and loved, disillusioned and vital, their waves of melancholy, their tragic ironies, and downcast glances. Life, whether ordinary or memorable, knows how to be very long. The passage of time offers a vast repertoire of emotions. And there in the depths, so close and yet so far, is Naples, this ineffable city that enchants, charms, screams, laughs, and always knows how to hurt you.”
Under the vision of Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent Productions ventures into the world of cinema with these three productions, promising a rich and profound cinematic experience that complements the essence of its fashion collections.
