Doja Cat confronts fan controversy, setting the record straight on alleged hate and revealing her stance on privacy and vulnerability.

In a recent interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music, Doja Cat addressed the ongoing speculation regarding her sentiments towards her fanbase. The artist aimed to dispel misconceptions and set the record straight about her alleged disdain for fans.

Contrary to rumors circulating on social media, Doja Cat explicitly stated, “You’ll never see a direct quote of me saying I hate my fans. Not once.” She attributed the misunderstanding to misquotes and emphasized that she never made such a negative statement.

Controversy surrounding Doja Cat’s interaction with fans escalated prior to the release of her latest album, “Scarlet,” in September. A disagreement unfolded on social media when the artist criticized her fanbase for adopting the term “kittenz.” This led to Doja Cat losing over 180,000 followers, as she expressed her frustration with fans in a now-deleted post.

During the Apple Music interview, Doja Cat addressed the controversy, stating, “I do like to play with that, as a meme.” She highlighted her reluctance to explain her sense of humor and emphasized that understanding her jokes is subjective.

Delving into her personal life, Doja Cat disclosed her preference for privacy, revealing that she avoids following friends on social media to maintain a level of anonymity. She also expressed hesitancy in sharing vulnerabilities such as anxiety and depression, fearing potential exploitation.

In a previous interview for Harper’s Bazaar, Doja Cat elaborated on the challenges of being a public figure, stating, “I’ve accepted that that’s what happens.” Despite prior statements, the artist showed appreciation for her fans during a Scarlet release party in Los Angeles, symbolizing her affection with red paint.
